This was reported to us last week - please take all of these precautions seriously!
Dear residents, On April 1, a woman reported she had a flat tire soon after leaving a bank where she had withdrawn money. After pulling over to deal with the flat tire, she was approached by a male with a can of Fix-a-Flat. When she was distracted, the "Good Samaritan" reached in her car, took her purse and ran. It was discovered that her tire had a puncture in the side. Crime Prevention Tips Home: • Always make it look like someone is home. • Make sure your home alarm is working and use it. • Use exterior lights at night. • Have a generic phone message that does not say your name. • Lock all jewelry in a secure and hidden safe. • Keep a list of all serial numbers of your electronics and keep pictures of jewelry. • Keep an eye on strangers in your house and do not let them in rooms they shouldn't be in. Vehicle: • Never leave anything of value in your vehicle. If you must, lock it in the trunk. • Make sure you are not being followed to your car. • Keep your keys in your hand when walking to your vehicle and do not unlock it until you are at it. • Lock your vehicle doors immediately once inside. • Keep an eye out on your surroundings when getting close to your destination. Other: • Don't show off your jewelry or other valuables when out. • Call 9-1-1 if you see something or someone suspicious. • Trust your instincts and do not put yourself in a bad situation.
