July 23, 2014 - July Update !!
Hi Neighbors & Friends,
CONGRATULATIONS!! - BOB GRAY Post 4 and STEVE BROADBENT Post 6 on your election to City Council.
Tuesday Bob Gray and Steve Broadbent won solid victories. I talked to Steve and Bob to congratulate both of them on their victories Tuesday evening. I look forward to working with them, Mayor Mike Bodker and my fellow Councilmembers as we work together on building a solid consensus for our positive vision for the city.
I also offer my heartfelt respect and thanks for Nancy Reinecke and Eric Fragoso for running their race. Each of the candidates brought their unique ideas and passion as they canvassed the neighborhoods. In the "Final 4" races the candidates really got to share their ideas and our city is the better for it.
Both councilmembers will be sworn into office 7PM Monday, July 28th at City Hall. Please join us for this special time in their lives and the history of our city!
Most residents are unaware of the issue of illicit activities at some of Johns Creek's massage establishments. Over the past year your Council, staff, involved citizens and reputable massage establishments and therapists have been working together to strengthen the Massage Establishment Ordinance to stop the illicit activities.
After the motion was made I seconded the motion and stated, "I second this motion because it is in the strong public interest for our families in Johns Creek."
During the comment phase I stated, "We are here today because of the strong partnership between the public and Johns Creek City Officials. It was just over a year ago that I was contacted by citizens who were concerned about illicit activities at some of Johns Creek's massage establishments. They were having a citizen's meeting and asked me if I would attend. I told them I would attend and at the same time I reached out to our City Attorney and Councilmember Kelly Stewart and asked if they could join me. I thank both of them for attending - their input has been invaluable. As we prepare to vote on this important ordinance we should recognize and applaud the efforts and the hard work done by Johns Creek Residents, Legal Staff and fellow City Council Members. This ordinance can also serve as a model ordinance for every other city in the State of Georgia that wants to strengthen its laws against illegitimate activities at massage establishments. I would like to personally salute Street Grace, Wellspring Living, Georgia Center for Opportunity and the Governor's Office of Families & Children for diligently working on this issue. Staff went above and beyond the call of duty to help get us to this point. I appreciate your tireless work to help us fight human exploitation and trafficking. Our Roswell friend Dave McCleary was just recognized by Rotary International for his fight against human trafficking. Dave and I met at the Savannah GMA Convention in June and discussed what we could do here in North Fulton for teens at risk. Thank you for your efforts. Johns Creek is a safe, family community. I aim to keep it that way. This ordinance will strengthen our family values and curb illegitimate activities. This ordinance has my full support."
